28th Dec 2008 00:37 I like to write...every so often, I come up with a situation, complete with names, ages, physical and emotional descriptions, etcetera. Feedback in the form of comments would be appreciated...
please post what number situation you are commenting on. I hope to have several on here, and would like separate feedback on each.
1. "Peace on another world"
This is one I play with every so often. It is set several years into the future...about twenty years before this ocurred, and again about five years before, creatures from another world came to attack. The majority of the world was wiped out, and what was left had to band together. At the moment, the entire population of the earth is in a single colony, a bit bigger than half of the United States. All children who were under ten years old when the second wave came were given a quick 'crash-course' in foreign languages, and now most children are bi- or tri-lingual. After hearing of a third wave coming, the colony sent some of the children in a small ship to find another planet...
'Marmies' is slang in this time for a pair of same-gender twins. Due to the attacks, there are only two same-gender twins in the colony-both go along on the ship.
Taila and Treta-are seven years old, Marmies. Both have long brown hair and an uncanny way of looking at a person, as if they are seeing all their secrets, because in fact-they are. Marmies have such talents as body inhabiting, soul reading, mind reading, etcetera. They are also Sensitive to creatures most don't notice. The male Marmies were the ones who warned of the second wave. Taila is usually kinder than her sister. The pair were volunteered for the trip by their grandma, who had cared for them following the death of both parents in the second wave. She had caught the radiation sickness and knew that this was their chance to get away.
Merlonter and Martinai-are eleven years old, male Marmies. The term Marmie was named after Martinai, the older by almost three minutes. Both have short, messy blond hair. They volunteered themselves, much to the annoyance of their single surviving relative, an older cousin. This could perhaps be because everyone gave money and gifts to the Marmies, as well as feared them somewhat.
Jalindor and Jarania-fourteen year old boy-girl twins. Both have dark, almost black hair. Jarania keeps her in a ponytail or braid, while Jalindor's is usually short and combed flat. They volunteered themselves-their mother died during the second wave, their father died of the radiation sickness shortly afterward. The orphanages are horrid and dangerous-they've been living on their own for a little less than six years.
Haile and Harel-Eight year old boy-girl twins. Haile has gotten over her innate fear of Marmies to become friends with Taila and Treta...well, sometimes Treta. Harel can't seem to get over his natural fright to get to know the girls or Lonnie and Mart. The pair were the only ones to have both parents alive and well-unfortunately, their parents did not want children in the first place, and said so quite forcefully. They ran from home a few days before the ship was to leave and were found by Jarania, who helped get them a spot.
Raterlin and Roserina-thirteen year old boy-girl twins. Raterlin is overprotective, while Roserina hates being told what to do...not a good combo, but understandable. The pair were in an orphanage for four years, after the destruction the second wave caused was cleaned up, and they could not find their parents, or any family. Ter refuses to tell anything that happened, while Rosie will only explain that they had to clean debris, and ignore anything that was not debris. Jarania and Jalindor have interpreted that to mean that the pair were on a cleanup force that left the protected area of the colony to clear away debris so the colony could expand-but that they came across several people who were caught in the destruction and died as a result. Neither child will explain any further.
The world they find was set up, very tidy and neat. It was covered in dust and they assume nobody lives there anymore. The building they found is small, seems to be made for very young children.
Darine and Doril-fifteen year old boy-girl twins. Native to this new world. They are more skilled in the arts than Marmies even, and they became invisible when the last of their race was leaving and they were refusing to go. Unfortunately, they cannot change back on their own, so two drinking mugs coated on the inside with powder. Taila and Treta can both hear them, but only Taila can see them.
