Greek Mythology
The 3 fates, also known as the Moirai, are sometimes referred to as the Goddesses of destiny- even though they don't look very lady-like on marapets. Their names are Clotho, Lachesis & Atropos to go in order from youngest to oldest. Clotho, the spinner, weaves the string for the person who is not yet born. Lachesis, the allotter decides how long the string is, thus showing how long the mortal will live. Then Atropos (the oldest, and clotho, the youngest), the inevitable, cut the string when it is time for the representer of the string to pass away. However, these three goddesses CANNOT cut the thread of God, only mortal beings. These Immortal Goddesses are the daughters of Zeus and Themis. Clotho, Lachesis & Atropos are suppose to show up 3 days after the child is born and reveal/tell their destiny. The daughters can be known as the parcae in Roman mythology. They called the fates Nona, Decuma, and Morta. The norse mythology have there own birthing goddesses called the Norns, which weave the web of life. The Fates are thought of as unmerciful, which yes, It's true that the fates have their share of good and evil.
