She looked into the mirror. Her straight black hair had grown alot in the summer, all the way to the middle of her back. Her blue-yellow eyes shined when she smiled into the glass, watching her reflection copy her exact movements. She noticed how much taller she had gotten too, in a matter of two months. She brushed her glossy hair and watched herself carefully. She knew she couldn't avoid him tomorow, because he'd be waiting at the front door just like every year at the beginning of school. "He" was her best friend, Shane. She'd never forget the day he told her his deepest darkest secret. Shane was a vampire.
"What the heck is going on, Shane?" Aggravation tainted her words. She tucked her hair behind her ears and folded her arms in annoyance. "Nothing..it's...nothing, Kay." Shane shook his long black hair from his grey eyes and sat down on the porch steps. "I'm just.. wondering if now's the right time." Kay looked up into his eyes and tilted her head to the left. 'What in the world is he babbling about?' She thought as she joined him on the concrete steps. "Okay...well....promise me you won't freak out and run away from me?" He looked into her eyes, practically begging her and stuck out his pinky. She hooked hers around his and smiled, showing her braces. He smirked at the sight of them and she quickly covered her mouth. "Heheh, sorry..I'm still not used to them." They laughed and then she smacked his bicep playfully as to tell him to spill the secret. Like a key opening a magic door, the secret poured out of him. Kay couldn't grasp his words at all. It was like they were hanging above her, like stars in a midnight sky. "So..your a...a...vampire?" she struggled with the words. It couldn't be true...oh no. "Yeah..I am. And sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Kay, please, pleaseee don't run. I told you because I trust you. With everything. Pleasee.." Tears filled up in his stormy eyes, and Kay took a deep breath. "I promise you. I'm always gonna be here for you. And besides, I always knew there was something extra freaky about you." They smiled.
Kay grinned at the fond memory of her and Shane. But then she shook her head and glared at the picture of him that was smirking back at her. He had gone off ad gotten a girlfriend... right after she told him how she had felt. She was extremely mad at him, and has spent most of her summer ignoring his calls and his appologies.
"Not giving in to his charm this time" She whispered to the mirror. Then she turned to get up but gasped when she saw him, standing in her doorway, roses in hand.

Chapter two
"So...how long did you think you could outrun me, the vampire? Haha, you know much better than that, Kay." She knelt down beside her and ruffled her hair. "Agh! Stop! I just brushed this out! Ugh, get outta here, you dork!" She yelled but was smiling. His grey eyes shined when he looked at her. 'Woah...what's with him?' She thought. "Haha, whatever. It's just hair. You act like your going to meet God or the president.." She looked from him to the roses, and back at him. He smiled and looked down at the pink petals. "Aw, you don't think these are for you, do ya?" And handed them to her. She stuck her nose and smelled the beautiful aroma. "Why...Shane?" She glanced up and a happy tear slid down her cheek. "No tears, my dear." He lifted her chin and kissed her nose. 'What in the heck!?' Her mind raced to find answers but she stopped thinking imediately when something warm touched her lips. 'Oh my gosh!? He's....kissing me...'
