Toy's Point of View (work in progress)
14 years & 5 days ago
22nd Dec 2010 10:28 I sat in my box, hopeful, like the thousands of other toys stacked on shelves around me. Watching people in every size and shape imaginable pass me by.
In some ways I don't want to be taken home, to damaged and then forgotten. I would love to just sit in my box, and remain immortal.
But to be loved by a child, and become immortal in their memories, it's almost greater than never spoiling.
A young girl with blonde piggy-tails eyes fixed themselves on me, she lifted her arm and pointed a chubby finger at me "That one Mummy" she said in her high pitched voiced. "That one?" her Mother asked skeptically, reaching out and pulling me off the shelf. "Yes" She giggled, trying to pull me away from her Mothers grip. "Maybe you should write a note to Santa? Asking for a little brown bear like this one"
"But I don't wanna wait Mummy!" She protested, pulling harder at the plastic encasing me. Her mother shook her head, putting me back on the shelf. And dragged her daughter further down the isle, her childs lip trembling.
Hours past before store clerk came past, restocking the shelves. Everything was was dark, almost closing time. Only a few customers remained. One being the girls mother, whom had come back without her daughter a few minutes ago. "You'll have to head over to and pay now m'am, we're closing soon" the clerk explained. "Oh, ok, Let me just grab one more thing" she said, walking at a increasing pace towards me. She pulled me off the shelf and put me in her trolley, hidden under tinsel.
I couldn't see anything for the next hour, appart from the transition from trolley to bag.
Within two minutes of being unpacked, I was wrapped and left in darkness for what seemed like an eternity. Until finally I heard the sound I'd been waiting for, the squeal of children waking up and seeing presents under a tree, all I had to do was wait until it was my turn to be opened, and finally it came. The paper around me was torn away, allowing light to pour in for the first time in days.
It was the same girl as the the shop, smiling at me with bright blue eyes, breaking the plastic and lifting me out of my safety.
