Daddy's Poem

Her hair was up in a pony tail,

her favorite dress tied with a bow.

Today was Daddy's Day at school,

and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,

that she probably should stay home.

Why the kids might not understand,

if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried,

for her to face this day alone.

And that was why once again,

she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school

eager to tell them all.

About a dad she never sees;

a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.

Children squirming impatiently,

anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called a student from the class. To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,

every child turned to stare.

Each of them was searching,

for a man who wasn't there.

"Where's her daddy at?"

she heard a boy call out.

"She probably doesn't have one,"

another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,

she heard a daddy say,

"Looks like another deadbeat dad,

too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,

as she smiled up at her Mom.

And looked back at her teacher,

who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,

slowly she began to speak.

And out from the mouth of a child,

came words incredibly unique.

"My Daddy couldn't be here,

because he lives so far away.

But I know he wishes he could be,

since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,

I wanted you to know.

All about my daddy,

and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories

he taught me to ride my bike.

He surprised me with pink roses,

and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,

and ice cream in a cone.

And though you cannot see him.

I'm not standing here alone.

"Cause my daddy's always with me,

even though we are apart

I know because he told me,

he'll forever be in my heart"


With that, her little hand reached up,

and lay across her chest.

Feeling her own heartbeat,

beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.

Proudly watching her daughter,

who was wise beyond her years.


For she stood up for the love

of a man not in her life.

Doing what was best for her,

doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd.

She finished with a voice so soft,

but its message clear and loud.

"I love my daddy very much,

he's my shining star.

And if he could, he'd be here,

but heaven's just too far

You see he was a firefighter

and died just this past year

When airplanes hit the towers

and taught Americans to fear.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,

it's like he never went away."

And then she closed her eyes,

and she saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,

she witnessed with surprise

A room full of daddies and children,

all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,

who knows what they felt inside.

Perhaps for merely a second,

they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"

to the silence she called out.

And what happened next made believers,

of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,

for each of their eyes had been closed.

But there on the desk beside her,

was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,

by the love of her shining star.

And given the gift of believing,

that heaven is never too far.


They say it takes a minute to find a special

person, an hour to appreciate them,

a day to love them, but then an entire

life to forget them.

boy- I missed you at school today, why weren't you there?

girl- Yeah, I had to go to the doctor.

boy- Oh really? Why?

girl- Oh nothin, annual shots, thats all.

boy- Oh

girl- So what did we do in math today?

boy- You didnt miss any thing that great...just lots of notes

girl- Ok good....

boy- Yeah.....

girl- Hey I have a question...*Staring into his eyes*

boy- Ok, ask away....

girl-....How much do you love me?

boy- You know...(Using his hands while talkin* I love you more than anything...

girl- Yeah....*stares into his eyes to see it's true*

boy- Why did you ask?

girl-....*silence,stops staring into his eyes, and looks down to the ground*....

boy- Is something wrong?

girl- No nothing at all...*She smiles at him*

boy- Good....*Smiles back*

girl- .....How much do you care about me?

boy- I would give you the world in a heartbeat if I could.*smiles at her*

girl- *in a soft,low voice* You would?

boy- Yeah....Of course I would *sounding worried*Is there something wrong??

girl- *Shking her head* No, everythings fine......

boy- Are you sure?

girl- Yeah.

boy- ok...I hope so.

girl- .....Would you die for me?

boy- I would take a bullet for you anyday, hun..

girl- Really?

boy- Anyday. Now seriously, is there something wrong???*Looks & sounds worried*

girl- No im fine, your fine, we're fine, everyones fine....

boy- ....ok......*smiles and stares into her eyes*

girl-......Well I have to go I'll see you tomorrow at school....*walks away*

boy- *yells across* Alright, bye... I LOVE YOU.

girl- Yeah, I love you to, bye....

~~~THE NEXT DAY AT SCHOOL~~~~

boy- Hey, have u seen my girlfriend today?

friend- No

boy- Oh.....*thinking of her*

friend- She wasnt here yesterday either.

boy- I know, she was acting all wierd on the phone last night....*Remembering the last words she said to him on the phone*

friend- Well...dude you know how girls are sometimes....

boy- Yeah......but she snt like that.

friend- I dont know what-else to say, man.

boy- Okay...Well I gotta get to english, I'll see yea after school....

friend- Yeah I gotta get to science, Talk to you later.

boy- Hey

girl- Oh, hi....*nosies on the background*

boy- Why wont you at school?

girl- Uhhhmmm...I had another doctor appointment....

boy- I'll wait....Really

girl- It..It might take awhile, so I'll call you later.....
Boy- ...Alright, i love u hun.

girl- (with Tears in her eyes)I think we should break up....

boy- What???

girl- Its the best thing for us right now.

boy- yWhy???

voice- hello, suppam county hospital, this is nurse beckam.

boy- uh.......i must have the wrong number, im looking for my friend.

voice- what is her name, sir?
(boy gives info)

voice- yes, this is the right number, she is one of our patients here.

boy- rele? y? what happened??? how is she???

voice- her room number is ..646, in building A, suite 3.

boy- WHT HAPPENED??!!!!

voice- plz come by sir and you can see her, goodbye.

boy- WAIT! NO!
*dial tone*

BOY GOES TO HOSPITAL, AND TO ROOM ..646, BUILDING A, SUITE 3. GIRL IS LYING IN THE HOSPITAL BED.

boy- omg are u ok??

girl- ..................

boy- sweetie!! talk to me!!

girl- i..........

boy- u what?? U WHAT???

girl- i have cancer and im on life support

boy- .....................>breaks into tears<......................

girl- they're taking me off 2night

boy- y??

girl- i wanted 2 tell u but i couldnt

boy- y didnt u tell me????

girl- i didnt want 2 hurt u.

boy- u could never hurt me

girl- i just wanted 2 c if u felt bout me as the same i felt bout u.

boy- ?

girl- i love u more than anything, i would give u the world in a heartbeat. i would die for you and take a bullet for you.

boy- ...........

girl- dont be sad, i love u n ill always be here w/u

boy- then y'd u break up w/me?

nurse- young man, visiting hours are over.

BOY LEAVES, GIRL IS TAKEN OFF LIFE SUPPORT, AND DIES.

but wht the boy didn't kno is that the girl only asked him those questions so she could hear him say it one last time, and she only broke up w/him because she knew she only had 3 more weeks to live, and thought it would cause him less pain and give him time to get over her before she died.

NEXT DAY

the boy is found dead with a gun in his hand..with a note in the other...
THE NOTE SAID:i told her i would take a bullet for her....just like she said she would die for me...
