"The Aurochs, also known as Urus or Ure, is a genus of large and ancient wild cattle that inhabited Asia, Europe, and North Africa. The ancestor of domestic cattle, the species survived in Europe until 1627, when the last recorded aurochs died in the Jaktorów Forest, Poland.

The Aurochs lived in Africa and Eurasia during the Early Pleistocene to the Late Holocene period from 2 million years ago to 400 years ago. They coexisted with other ice age animals such as Megaloceros, Cave Bears, Woolly Rhinoceros, Cave Lions, Cave Hyenas, Arctotherium, Ice Age Humans, Elasmotherium, and even the mighty Woolly Mammoths. The Aurochs lived on the Earth until 1627, but were first domesticated by humans about 10,500 years ago in southeastern Anatolia and northern Syria."
