Well, it was mainly because you started the trend. When people price the usually just go through the stock shop and go lower than the lowest price tha is displayed.
So, hypothetically, if you have an item worth 250,000 and the next person decides to put the price at 249,900 or something, it doesn't have a dramatic effect on anything.
However, if your item which is 250,000 is the only one around and someone prices the same item at 200,000 and then the next person prices at 189,000 and so on; you item which was once worth a lot is not anymore.
The best way to cheaply and easily get rid of your item without ruining it for other is the auction house.
