Miranda stared deeply into the wall as thought about what happened. She had almost been burned in a fire and taken to a small village which was in the middle of a sea of browning grass. As she walked to her bedroom, limping, she collapsed on the bed, sound asleep. Miranda had dreamed of her house burning in the flames as smoke rose up through the fresh air. Her brother was in there.
Her brother, was a fifteen year old who was like a father to Miranda. His name was Joey.
Miranda had parents too of course. Had. They passed away when little Miranda was two. They died of a virus that fortunately was no longer effective.
She sat thinking of her brother. Damp tears dripped off of her face as she thought of him. Now what? She thought. As she squinted towards the wall, a small image started to appear. It seemed familiar but Miranda couldn't quite make out what it was. It's not real. She thought to herself. Close your eyes and think happy thoughts. That was impossible though. The events that had happened had locked her mind in a cell where no happiness was found. Miranda sat staring at the image for an hour. She eventually passed out.
Miranda woke up at the sound of knocking on the front door. She had forgotten all about the events from yesterday but she had not forgot about the image. She crawled out of bed and walked down the hall to the front door. ???Who's there???? she called. ???Open the door??? a mysterious voice whispered. ???Not until you tell me who you are!???
???No. You MUST open the door. I have news for you???
???Good or bad????
???Good and bad.???
Miranda slowly opened the door just a crack. She saw a teenage boy with scars everywhere. The were also deep red burns on his arms and legs. He must have been caught in a fire.
Caught in a fire.
Joey.
???Joey!!!!??? Miranda cried. She jumped up and gave him an enormous hug. ???Be careful of the burns??? Joey whispered. He paused for a minute and pushed Miranda away. ???I'm not in the mood??? he looked angry. ???Buh...But...??? cried Miranda.
???Leave I said!??? Shouted Joey. Miranda kicked open the door and ran as far and fast as she could.
She eventually left the village. She was still in her pajamas. Miranda collapsed on the grassy field and cried. Why was Joey like that? She wondered.
Miranda had decided to continue on to another town to see if there was any place to stay. She found a village called, 'Alkromania'. It's sounded friendly so Miranda traveled to the Inn. She asked the innkeeper, Susan, if there was any place to stay.
???Well, have you got any gold???? Susan asked. Miranda emptied her pockets. All she found was a paper clip and a crumb of bread. ???Every child keeps at LEAST ten gold in their pocket.??? Susan told Miranda.
Miranda told Susan the whole story about her parents, the fire, and her brother.
???Poor child. Come with me. You can stay in my cabin.??? said Susan. Susan lead Miranda to staircase leading upstairs. ???It's the first door on the right. The bathroom is the second door on the right and the mini kitchen is on the left. Take care now, darling. I'll be up in an hour. There are also plenty of books in there too. Help yourself.??? Susan said.
Miranda walked up the stairs and into the bedroom. She sat down on the second, smaller bed and stared at the wall. After a couple minutes, the image appeared on the wall. Not again. Miranda thought. I thought you were just an imprint on my old bedroom wall.
She stared at the image. It was like a reflection of herself in the wall, but with jagged shapes and lines. It was too bizarre to describe. Miranda had stared at it for over a half an hour and fainted upon the bed. Susan came in about twenty minutes after she collapsed. Susan stared at Miranda and screamed.
Chapter 2: The Drifting Mind of a Child
Miranda woke up on the floor of a white room. Am I being tested in a hospital? She thought.
The white room had no end. It was like the universe, it never ended. The floor was tiled with an icy blue color and white. The walls were perfectly white. No scrapes, no scratches. It seemed as though this room had never been touched.
Miranda was dressed in a white pajama gown. Small blue buttons slept upon the middle of her shirt. Her pants had gone all the way down to her pale feet.
She stood up and started to stroll around this white room. I wish there was something to eat. Miranda thought.
Sure enough, a small end table appeared, made of smooth, red wood, with a white plate of turkey and mashed potatoes sitting atop it. Miranda slowly walked over to the table. A small, red, wooden chair appeared for her to sit on. She sat comfortably in the chair and took a bite of the turkey. Mmmm she thought. Just like mother's turkey.
Miranda looked up and thought. I wish I had a strawberry smoothie with a cherry on top. And Sure enough, a small clear glass appeared on the table. The strawberry swirl smoothie with cherry rested inside the glass. Miranda picked up the smoothie and felt the smooth glass that was surrounding the smoothie itself. Wow! I can do anything I want here! Yes! Hahahahaha! Miranda thought to herself. ???I wish I had a three story mansion with a swimming pool outside!??? She cried out. You've probably guessed it. It appeared.
