Quotes by Carly

I'm a poor man. My life consists of working odd jobs throughout the year. I work in department stores and at Christmas tree farms in the winter, in a traveling circus or amuzement park during the summer, and I live in a shady apartment downtown. I live on my own. I've never felt the need for a companion, nor any jealousy toward those who had one. Until now.
It was early December, and we were in the parking lot of a K-Mart, selling pine trees. A cascade of slush and rain, about seven thirty at night, when a car pulled up. It was black, pretty nondescript. A man got out; I can't lie, he was pretty good looking, even if he was in his early thirties, and much too old for the woman that got out of the passenger seat. The girl was maybe twenty, which immediately brought to my mind a sugar daddy, or something of the sort. But she walked around back and opened the door, and out jumped a toddler, cute little boy. And then she stepped up into the street lights, where we were, where the trees were, and I saw just how pretty she was. I also saw that her pea coat was uncomfortably tight around the stomach.
That was the first time I felt envy for another man. Here I was, working out in the cold and wet, and there he was, not much older than I, with a beautiful wife and child and another on the way.
That was the first time I let my envy get the best of me.

"I'm from Liverpool. You know where that is? England. United Kingdom? No? God, you Americans are idiots. No. Good bye, Mr. Cox."
A note to you, friends. Never come to America. Or at least, never to New York. THe people here are dirty, rude, and stupid. I'll be moving out. Not back to Liverpool. God no, I hate it there. I'm moving across the country. Trying California this time.
My name is Kayte. That's pronounced like Kate, but much more interesting. Pardon you.
I moved here to get away from my parents, but I was not going to learn a new language. America neemed about like my only option. So here I am.
I guess I'm pretty good looking by your standards, because I get hit on in every god damned pub I walk into. Is that just how it is here? I hope not.
I live in the suburbs outside Buffalo. It's nice. People are ignorant. All is well.
No, it's not.

Quotes by Phoebe

He was aware of everything around him at this moment. For a blind man, that was something. He could feel the wooden bench beneath him, the rough, dirty fabric of his jumpsuit. He could practically see the metal bars in front of him, hear the breath of the guards on the other side...the ticking of the clock like his heart as it counted the number of beats he had left.
A blind man couldn't be a serial killer. How could he? "I am no ordinary killer, do not insult me", he would say, smiling toothily, "Blindness was my trick. I would look lost, confused, and some poor woman would come to help me. 'Oh, my dear sweet child, I cannot find my family!' Haha. I would tell her what the license plate number was, where we parked, she would take me there, and I would push her into the trunk. Simple as that. My lovely wife would drive us off (before she committed suicide) and then me and my new friend would have fun in my workshop. Dangerous fun. Too bad, for they all killed themselves when given the opportunity. I never killed anyone. I just burned them, whipped them, cut them until, when a gun was placed in front of them, they wanted to end it. It was never my fault."
But that was before he got caught. Long before. He'd been on death row for almost fifteen years. He was old, too. It seemed hardly worth it to pay for the lethal injection when he would be dead in a few years anyways. But it was their problem, not his.
Ten minutes. The doors slid open, with a loud buzz heard from the warden's chambers. "Your time's up, mate."
