Missing Piece (Story)

A/N: I really want to know your opinions for this first chapter... I have written seven chapters for this so far...but here's the first chapter of my first novel "Missing Piece" (I have a lot of novels but this was my first)

Summary: Lorelei and Matt lived an orphaned life after their unknown parents left them when they were still so young, but even though their condition was like that, they still lived a happy life together. But when things get hectic, would things be still normal as their happy days?

Missing Piece

???A promise makes two vows??????

~ First Chapter ~

It was a stormy night when Lorelei???s parents brought them to the orphanage. Lorelei was still a baby back then and Matt, her brother, was not older than eight years old. Their parents knocked at the front door???

???Hello? Is anyone there that could help us???? asked their mom. Their dad banged the door stronger letting the crows fly away from their nest. Finally, the door creaked open and their stood a lady with proper posture but has odiously, nasty manners.

???What do you want at the middle of the night!???? asked the lady with her French accent. ???We would like you to take our children and keep them safe?????? pleaded their mom. The lady looked at them and said, ???Come in quickly and we???ll discuss this further inside.??? They followed her leading them to the living room of the orphanage.

The lady sat at her chair in front of her working desk. She put on her glasses and started talking. ???Explain your reasons why you want to leave them here and why you have to do this kind of matter in the middle of the night!??? Both their parents flinched as they looked at each other.

Their dad replied, ???Uh, could we discuss somewhere private? Where our children would not hear a thing???? The lady nodded and asked her assistant to bring the children upstairs. ???Very well then, Maria!???

???Yes, Ma???am???? she asked. ???Bring those two children upstairs!??? said the lady. ???Come along now, children?????? said Maria as she took them, but Matt struggled to break loose. Their mom went near Matt and hugged him. ???It???s ok, Matt, you could go with her??????

???But, mom, I don???t want to leave you!??? whined Matt letting his tears flow freely down his face. Their mom wept his tears and said, ???Matt, listen to me. You have to go with her, because you and your sister will be safer that way?????? said their mother. ???Why, mommy, can???t we just stay with you and dad????

Their mom sighed and shook her head left and right. ???Sorry, but you can???t???You???ll know when you grow up as a strong man???Promise me something, ok, Matt???? He nodded. ???Promise me that you???ll protect your sister no matter what!??? Their mom let out her pinky. Matt grabbed it with his and said, ???Promise, mommy??????

Matt was dragged away from her mom. That was the last memory of Matt from their parents???

Years have passed since that incident. Matt was now a twenty-five year old man, who is now about to finish college within the year, while Lorelei will turn eighteen this March. So much had happened between the lives of these two parentless siblings, and hiding between those years was paid by their lost childhood???

~ Lorelei ~

???Lei, wake up! It???s time for school?????? said Matt smiling at me. I stretched myself on my bed then stood up with Matt still beside me. ???How was your sleep???? he asked. I smiled at him and replied, ???It was???hm???what???s the word????

???Let me guess, is it wonderful, awesome, insane, or beautiful???? I laughed at his face. ???Hahaha???It???s all, brother!??? He smiled at me. I sighed as I looked at his smiling expression, his face always brightens my day, I couldn???t imagine waking up without it!

He gave me my clothes and I went to shower, while he cooks our breakfast. Ever since we???re allowed to leave the orphanage and raise on our own, my brother has been the one doing all the work. Sometimes I feel guilty just lying in bed , while he wakes up so early and comes home late just to let us live a simple life.

I wish I could repay him someday??? I shook my head with my thoughts and went out of the shower. I dressed myself with a yellow sundress then went to go downstairs while fixing my wet, raven, black hair.

I went to the kitchen where I found Matt waiting for me to eat. ???What took you so long, sis? Your food is getting cold?????? He whined while pouting. I smiled as I thought that he could be acting like a kid sometimes. That could be an exception to our family since we lost our childhood for the price of being treated like a slave in the orphanage. I sat beside him and began eating his cooking.

I chewed slowly while thinking about our past???I wonder who our parents are? What was their reason to leave us at the orphanage? Why couldn???t they just raise us up themselves? Were we accidentally born that???s why they abandoned us? These thoughts ran around my mind this moment. It bothered me a lot that I didn???t even notice my eyes were getting teary.

Matt stopped eating and looked at me. ???Was the food not to your liking???? he asked me. I wept my eyes then turned to him with a fake smile and replied, ???No, actually it???s very delicious! How???d you learn how to cook like this! You should probably run a restaurant, Matt!??? I started eating my food as fast as I can, but I knew that I was bad in lying and I???m guessing Matt is already suspicious with my actions???

???Lei, tell me the truth???Why are you crying???? he asked with concern. I looked at him straight in the eye, we stayed like that for a few minutes and after that my tears went in autopilot mode. I couldn???t stop it. I can???t hide what???s inside me anymore???I cried everything out while Matt embraced and cooed me to let them out.

???Sh???sh???sh???its ok, Lorelei, let it all out?????? Even though I wanted to stop, my heart just can???t handle them anymore???The pain from our past, the worried feelings for Matt, and the mockeries I get from school???they???ve all been mixed in my tiny heart to the extent that it overloaded with sadness and agony???

???I-I can???t take it anymore *sobs* Th-They???re *sniff* all too much?????? I said while crying between my words. ???W-why *sobs* do they *sniff* have to *sniff* leave us? Why should *sniff* we su-suffer, Matt *sobs* why???? By the time I spoke those words, I can feel Matt???s tears flowing through my hair???I didn???t care, because right now I just wanted everything to end???

I was buried from my tears and the next thing I knew, I woke up in bed in my sundress. I stood up and went around the house to find Matt. I looked everywhere for him, but it was no use. I was the only person left in that apartment. I started to panic??? ???No, no, no ,no ,no ,no!!! This can???t be happening!??? I said while my feet suddenly collapsed from the floor???Was everything just a dream?

I banged myself at the footstool of the table. I didn???t care if I was to die right now, everything was taken away from me! What???s the point of my life now? I started crying again once I saw blood gushing out from my injured arm???it was painful just how I liked it to be???

I keep banging myself until I heard someone enter the door and yelled, ???Lorelei, I???m Ho??? LORELEI!!???? My face lit up when I saw him???I was glad that he was still alive! I ran up to him and hugged him. Tears went out my eyes. ???I???m so glad you???re still alive, Matt!??? I exclaimed.

???Well, of course, I???m alive!??? He noticed the blood on my arms and said, ???What happened? Why are you hurt???? he asked me worriedly. I looked up to him and put on a grin. ???Well, it???s a long story???You want to start now???? I asked sheepishly.

???That can wait, we better put on some first aid on this. Wait here!??? said Matt to me as he threw his bag on the couch then went upstairs to get the First Aid Kit.

A few minutes later he went down holding the kit then sat beside me to entertain my wound. Right there I explained what happened from when I got up from bed. ???And that???s what happened?????? I can see that he was trying hard not to laugh, but at the same time he shows me a concern expression, which scared me a little???

???Why are you staring me like that? OW! Careful please?????? I said as he bandages my arm. ???You know I wouldn???t leave you! What made you think I would anyways???? he asked. ???Well, you could have told me that you went to school without me or probably just left a note telling me you went ahead.??? I said. He started to chuckle in front of me before saying, ???I did leave a note, its right on top of your desk?????? He replied while wiping the excess blood from my arm.

I let out an ???Oh?????? from my mouth. ???Sorry, Matt, I???m overreacting again??? I???m just worried that maybe something happened without me knowing???and --??? Matt covered my mouth and said, ???It???s alright, you don???t need to apologize I understand???But promise me, Lei, that you???ll never hurt yourself because of me, agreed???? He said. I nodded my head. ???Yes, brother. Matt, promise me something too??????

???What would that be???? he asked. ???Promise me that you???ll never leave me, promise me that we???ll live together until our last breath, ok???? I said letting out my pinky. He touches it with his and said, ???Promise.???
And after that he hugged me once more???I felt more secure because of that vow???I knew that deep inside its very real???I just hope it will be fulfilled???
