My story
14 years, 5 months & 16 days ago
13th Jul 2010 13:19 I???m April and I???m a survivor. No not like the show, those people secretly have juicy burgers and fries and cr??me brule waiting backstage; where as I have no, food, no water, no home, and no family. I try to think that I never had any family and I never will. Get married and have kids? Not exactly my priority. My whole life I???ve done what I can to be fed and have a clean (yes, clean can come before many other necessities, trust me there have been incidents) bed to sleep in. One day when I was staying at this extremely crappy hotel I rolled over in my bed to find, you guessed it 50 gigantic cockroaches staring intently at me. Fun, I know right? Not! Those little suckers scare the crap out of me, guess that???s basically my only weakness! Staying as clean as possible in places as clean as possible well, that???s involved stealing, and once I a while a slight knock in the side of the head to certain hotel owners with certain rocks. I happen to have never gotten caught either, because not having a mother or father you don???t exactly have any set boundaries.
My parents left me on the cool, slimy, doorstep of an orphanage, but I was already 12 and never thought my parents could do such a thing, and no, I know exactly what you???re thinking. No, this was not a rickety home for girls with an old lady screaming that she wants the floor to shine like the top of the Chrysler building and lightning shooting down behind it like an old movie, this was a home for both girls and boys and thank goodness because when I was 12 I was a sporty little girl who would whip a guys butt daily.
Sadly, when I turned 14 I was sent to, you guessed it, Mrs. Lanes???s home for girls. It was horrible and let me tell you that floor was not even close to shining any brighter then my old sneakers, and if my life was an old movie there would have been some serious lightning and thunder and evil MWHAHAHAHA action. I was out of there after 2 hours of ???DO THIS??? and ???DO THAT???. With my curly blonde hair in a layed over my tan back, my dirty blue jeans, ripped navy blue shirt, and light blue eyes alert and ready for anything. I set off to find a life for myself; I never thought it could begin to end so quickly.
I slowly turned fifteen then sixteen and just a few days ago seventeen. I was old enough to have a license but, I was basically homeless so that one sort of sorted itself out. I never wear makeup (ehhhh does dirt count?), I never giggle or say ???tee-hee???, and under no circumstance do I ever let a guy beat me at anything, it may be sports or burping but they do not beat me. Also, I am an adrenaline junkie. Skydiving, parasailing, heck eating raw jalape??os, it was all fun and games. I especially loved the rush of stealing. Yea stealing it???s what I have to do to survive no judging???. yet. You know, the five-second feeling of guilt, and then realizing you didn???t pay anything for an item that is all yours? For you daddy???s girls and mommy???s boys out there it???s a rush, trust me. I never had a thought of real, life-threatening danger because none had ever presented itself to me, so, when I was kidnapped I didn???t have the slightest idea what to do. I???m kidding of course! The minute they put the drug filled rag in my mouth and a rough potato sac over my head (I mean come on people be at least a little original) I was working out a plan to escape wherever the hell they were taking me. Little did I know, that wasn???t going to be an option.
I woke up groggily and nearly passed out again, this time not from the drugs. I was in a room that came straight of one of the movies where all the big head honcho people are sitting a room with a huge glass panel as a wall. I???m good with heights thank god because we were at least 45 stories up. Soon I started to regain my senses and realized I was sitting on a cold, hard grey marble floor tied up. Wait, not just tied up, there was someone tied up against my back. I used my hand to flick the side of the mystery person???s thigh, they had obviously been drugged too. When mystery person slowly began to awake I heard a slow ???Ummmmmmmmm ummmm wait NOOOOOOO.??? escape from mystery person???s lips. That was enough for me to positively say this was a guys around my age maybe 1-2 years older, and he had been taken here without consent too. I slowly said ???Hello? Anyone there???? My reply from mystery boy was ???Oh my God where the HELL am I????? This angered me a bit, so I said with a bit of annoyance in my voice ???Oh ya that???s a good idea to ask the girl tied up next to you who also got drugged, and brought to a place she knows nothing about!??? he replied ???Well then smart one maybe we should find out!??????OH MY GOD!??? I screamed, ???I just realized something! And slit the rope like butter with my freshly stolen Swiss army knife! If you???re wondering I took it from a CVS ???Try It!???display. I slowly stood up, because whatever the drugs they used had proven to be a little much for my system and then mystery boy turned around and all I can say is I nearly passes out. He was really cute, no he was really hot. This guy had dark blond/brown hair swept carelessly across his forehead, dark emerald green eyes, and smile that well was just plain intimidating! He stood up,l his gaze on me and said ???Hey, I???m Zac.
Zac???s Mind
OK this whole ordeal has been bad and all but when I stood up all I could think was DAMN damn damn this girl is amazing I mean seriously she has the most perfect blond hair and it was so natural and just perfect, her eyes were light baby blue, and her, lips were like pink cotton candy. I mean I would be fine staying in this place for a long time if it was with her??????.
April???s Mind
CRAP he???s staring! Oh geese why couldn???t I still be in that huge CVS stealing Tic-Tacs?
I slowly made my mouth say ???Uhhhhhh I???m April, hi.???
Zac then spoke carefully ???You???re kind of dirty. Where the heck are you from????
WAAAAA I had forgotten I was homeless, and with being homeless comes loads of unwanted dirt! Time for one of my famous ignore-the-question comebacks!
I spoke at a normal speed, with mock in my voice ???I should ask the same, you don???t have a speck of dirt on you!???
Zac blushed and said ???Ummm think we should figure out where the hell we are first????
???Fine, but the question won???t be ignored!??? I said
So on that note we began taking in our surroundings, outside the building window all there was, was a crimson desert. I mean literally crimson, the sand was bright red.
